NAC this week

This week was pretty crazy. I had to make over 350 labels for Rick. He wanted to mail some information around the Norman community about NAC to increase the number of people for NAC. Well, it turns out I had to end up making a lot more than I thought. It took me a lot longer than I thought.

I also finally got the membership form complete. I have two drafts I'm turing in tomorrow. One is similiar to the last design, then there's one that I tried to redesign. It's my first time actually doing that on my own. I'm a little nervous turning it in, but it's a learning experience.

I recently finished a press release about the Music Festival just talking about the safety issues and rules. I am also finishing up an ad research paper. I need to find out how much it's going to cost to post an ad online and Shagah is having write a "research" paper about it. Should be interesting.

This is what's been keeping me busy and until next time...

Update of the End of the Week

Last blog of the week. I am still working on my press release for the music festival. I will turn that in to Shagah tomorrow. Excited to get that done. I am in the process of talking about what not to bring to the festival like pets, street closures and hours of operation. I've really just been working on that and looking for the price of ads like I mentioned in my blog earlier this week.

Rick also got me started on creating labels for his church. Rick is wanting to mail all the members of his church information about Norman Arts Council. This goes hand and hand with the whole "networking" for the campaigns class that is using NAC as its client. So I am using Microsoft Excel to create these labels. It's really not that hard, it's just time consuming. I am putting their name, address, zip and city. Oh, but one more thing...there's 400 names in his address book he gave me. So this should be interesting. I thought it was neat that he got the idea of getting the Norman Arts Council out by his campaigns class. One of their big questions is why is NAC not well known in the Norman community? With that idea, he's having me get together NAC envelopes to mail out to his church.

So for tomorrow I'll have going into the day about 5 hours. I'm going in at 9 and staying until 3. It'll be a long day but I have a lot to do anyways. From the press release, to my 400 labels...it'll be a busy day.

Until next time...

2/12 and Upcoming Week

Last Friday was my long day, and boy, was it busy. I got to spend most of my day creating the NAC membership forum. It was a little nerve wracking having an entire template to myself with no boundaries. I am starting to really find my niche in PR. My first draft looked pretty identical to the old format so I finally decided to just go all out and make it entirely different. Shagah liked it, so hey, maybe I should just start trusting my instinct.

After awhile Shagah needed some help with some contact information for 2nd Friday. I had to figure out who was on the list and who was missing by searching each Web site. It was definitely "secretary" work but someone had to do it. It allowed me to research on all the art theatres sponsoring the 2nd Friday event.

For the 2nd Friday event, NAC is making static cling stickers for cars to advertise. A lot of people don't know about this event. NAC updated the Web site. It's pretty cool. 2ndfridaynorman.com. Check it out! I found the place to order from and the amount we needed, which was about 100.

Well for this week I've got a lot of stuff to keep me busy. I am working on a press release for the music festival. I will be releasing the details about what you can and cannot bring. Shagah wants me to write about the "nitty gritty" of the festival. So tomorrow I'll have most of the details of the press release. NAC wants to make for a safer and more enjoyable festival. This week I am also suppose to be researching the price of ads online. We are building the infrastructure on our site to sell ad space and need an idea of the price we can actually sell that ad space for. I'll have to call some similiar sites and ask the cost to buy ad space on their site. Hopefully, this is enough to go by until later this week.

Until next time,

Katie

A little catch up of the last two weeks...

I want to catch you up on what I have been doing for the last two weeks. I am still getting settled in, but have a couple duties assigned to me right now. I put in about 7 hours last week because of the weather but did work on a lot at my house. We have a membership drive coming up and have the lovely honor of creating the brochure for it! How exciting! Shagah is telling me to be creative and adventurous. Luckily, I have some experiences with InDesign (hints why I got this internship) so it's fun putting skills I have learned in the classroom to the test. The logo is lacking so Shagah is having me design a new "look" to get the audiences attention.

I am getting familiar with NAC's social media. I am eventually going to start updating them daily with new events and different things going on. I will eventually start making posts to the Web site. Mainly right now I am "getting familiar" with the ways of my internship. I am just getting comfortable with the databases.

Rick Fry, executive director of NAC, had a meeting with me on Wednesday talking about how confident he thinks I am...which I totally took as a compliment. He wanted to let me know to never be afraid of making mistakes. This is probably the best advice I have ever gotten from a boss...haha. He told me the only way I could never make a mistake is if I didn't contribute to anything here.

Rick also talked to me about a couple events coming up he wanted me to get familiar with...don't ask me what they were because I kind of forgot but I'll keep you posted when I go in tomorrow. We also brain stormed about one of the campaign groups from campaigns coming in to ask some questions about NAC. I liked it because I got to contribute to a class I have next semester. Almost like getting a taste of what that class is all about. We made some goals for the group: increase availibility of NAC, increase popularity of NAC, and ask the question as to why NAC is not well advertised to the consumer? and why Norman campus and downtown Norman don't go hand and hand when it comes to the arts of the community? They have to come up with most of the set goals...I mean that's the whole point of the class, Rick just wanted to get a feel as to what was going on since this was his first year to be part of campaigns.

I can't really think of anything else to talk about. Hopefully you have an idea of what I do. So with that said, I am excited for tomorrow. It's my long day. I'll have to show
you either tomorrow or next week my final draft of the membershop forum I am working on.

Until next time...

About Norman Arts Council Internship

Norman Arts Council is the first internship I have ever done. With that said, I am nervous but ready to learn my public relation's skills outside of the classroom. My job for my first semester interning is mainly just working with the PR Coordinator and focusing on both NAC initiatives as well as Norman Music Festival projects. Eventually I will be updating and editing the Web site's calendar of arts events; typesetting organization's press jobs; assisting with special events; photographing special activities and events; and other duties as assigned. Pretty exciting!

Shagah Zakerion is the Public Relations Coordinator at Norman Arts Council so you'll be hearing a lot about her during my blogging. I work for her more than anyone else. With that said, I will be going interning Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Fridays will be my longest day because I have no class. I will be doing my internship in the morning.

Hopefully I will have more exciting information to post in the upcoming future. Hope you'll enjoy it!

Well, until next time...
